Playing Card

Design

Following a traditional form and customizing it with your unique creative perspective is an engaging endeavour. Traditional playing cards follow a scheme that allows for a great deal of interpretation on style, design and texture. With my first set of playing cards, I wanted to create a vast contrast from the front of the cards to the back, so I designed a set that follows a brilliant colour scheme on the front of the cards, with a dark black gradient back. Inspired by Escher, and his incredible optical illusions, my intention in this design was to have depth to the cards, using gradients and colour transitions. Although the final product doesn't perfectly match my artistic vision, the project has been highly motivating for me to revisit and attempt new design ideas following the same format. The appeal of this art form is the practicality of the product, something I can use for many years to come.
