Denim Wood

Murphy Table

date. 2019

city. Vancouver

size. Woodwork 1m x 0.75m x 0.2m

After living in Europe, space utilization has continually been on my mind. I wanted to create a table that could compact when not in use, yet still maintain its visual appeal when folded up. Efficiency meets fine hand-crafted work in this denim wood Murphy table. I want to utilize and honour our damaged pine forests, and so I exclusively used pine beetle-eaten wood, which has a beautifully rich blue/grey grain. I made the joints of this table using dowels and glue, reducing the amount of metal used in the table to simply the hinges and clasp.
